Seahawk Inshore Fishing Report 9/16/09

The inshore fishing has been good the past couple of weeks with catches of redfish, speckled trout, flounder, sheephead, bluefish, and spanish mackerel.

We are catching good numbers of redfish on both artificials and live baits. Double digit days have been common. Most of the reds have been caught by blindcasting and sightcasting soft plastic jigs and topwater plugs around shellbeds and grass lines. For those that are not comfortable throwing artificials, live baits on float rigs and bottom rigs have been a very effective way to catch good numbers of these hard fighting fish. We have also been wading up in the marsh and sightcasting to tailing reds on the high tides with weedless jigs.

The speckled trout bite has turned on in the Cape Fear river. We are catching the specs on jigs, artificial shrimp, live shrimp and live mullet minnows on float rigs and bottom rigs. The flounder fishing has been excellent in the river also with some large flounder being caught around docks and points with live mullet and menhaden on carolina rigs. We are also catching some nice trout, bluefish, and flounder on artificials while fishing for redfish along the creek banks.

The sheephead are around in good numbers and there are some schools of bluefish and spanish mackerel nearshore and in the mouth of the Cape Fear river. Check out the photos from the past few weeks. These are just a few of the good catches we have had lately.

Thanks,
Jeff Wolfe

Kenny hooked up after making a perfect cast to tailing redfish in the spartina grass. My son Christian and Kenny caught nine sightcasting to tailers on this day. They would make great teammates on the redfish tour.

Lynn and Travis with a couple of the reds they caught with live minnows on carolina rigs on 9/12/09. They also had a double digit speckled trout day along with a few more reds.
